Hypertension is the 3th cause of death after stroke (15.4%) and tuberculosis (7.5%), reaching 6.8% of the population deaths in all age groups in Indonesia. From the initial survey conducted in 1987 people suffer from hypertension, 1412 among the elderly. This means, 71% of hypertensive patients are elderly. to determine the relationship of heredity, fat intake, sodium intake, obesity, smoking and sports activities with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in the working area of Kebun Sikolos health centers West Padang Panjang District. The research implemented in the working area of Kebun Sikolos health centers in July 2014 using the descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The population of this study were all elderly in the in the working area of Kebun Sikolos health centers with a sample of 97 people. Samples were taken by Cluster Sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaires and observation sheets. Then the data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate, multivariate analysis using Chi-Square test.The result showing correlation between sports activities ((p=0,021), sodium intake (p=0,020), obesity (p=0,001), patients with a history of hypertension (p=0,090), smoking (p=0,092) with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly, than, sports acivities and obesity was the factors most associated with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly.
