Personal protective equipment is equipment that is used to protect workers against hazards that can harm the health of nurses in the workplace. Respondent's behavior will be influenced from within or from outside the self, which comes from within the respondent is motivation. Still many respondents were not using PPE, because of the unavailability of complete personal protective equipment, and the only available PPE is Hand scoon, masks and scores only in RSI Ibnu Sina Bukittinggi 2014. This study aims to determine the corelation between motivation and use of PPE in RSI Ibnu Sina Bukittinggi in 2014.
This research is non-experimental descriptive correlational cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was a nurse in medical ward of RSI Ibn Sina Bukittinggi with a sample of 30 respondents. sampling is taken by quota sampling method. Data was collected through questionnaire and observation sheet. The statistical test used is the Chi-square test.
The results showed that 53.3% of respondents have a high motivation in the use of personal protective equipment, and respondents who use PPE as much as the respondent is not using PPE is 50.0% This means that there is corelation between motivation and the use of PPE by nurses in medical wards RSI Ibnu Sina Bukittinggi with value (P-value = 0.010).
Based on the analysis results, we can conclude that there is a significant corelation between motivation and the use of personal protective equipment by inpatient nurses in medical wards RSI Ibnu Sina Bukittinggi. It is expected that health care institutions to continue motivate nurses in the use of PPE as well as checking the type of personal protective equipment.
